NEW ORDER

NEW ORDER (Manchester - Angleterre) LiveIf there would be only one band to define the cross over between the electronic and the indie side of the festival, it could only be New Order.Manchester's cult group founded in 1980 on the ashes of Joy Division after the suicide of their legendary singer, Ian Curtis Initiated by Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris then Gillian Gilbert, the band will quickly took a key role in the merging New wave, electronic music and pop scenes. After Movement in 1981, the band released about 10 albums until 1993. They came back in 2000 after a long break. It is mainly with singles that New Order built a reputation. Temptation, Crystal, Regret, Bizarre Love triangle, Ceremony, and especially Blue Monday, Best selling E.P of all times. The band gave Manchester its unique position in the history of music. Nuits Sonores invited Manchester for a Carte-Blanche in 2005. The musical history of this city has been documented by Michael Winterbottom's movie 24 hour party people. The 3rd edition of Nuits Sonores had invited Tony Wilson, owner of the legendary label Factory records and who has been the architect of New Order's career and sadly passed away shortly after. Having the band in the festival 7 years after closing the first ten years of Nuits Sonores is indeed a great honor. |
